An inspiring, thought-provoking glimpse into a world and a people that inhabit a space a stone's throw from our own. Entertaining, yes, but also full of heart. Highly recommended!
-- Frank Tuttle, award winning author of the Markhat Files
I very much enjoyed the first two and am excitedly looking forward to the third. I was more intrigued and involved with Phantom Forest Saga than the Harry Potter series. So many books have tells that give away the ending. Not these! You are a consummate jeweler who places the gems in precise detail to make your creation shine. I HAVE to see the movies. I know I am going on and I mean every word. Seldom do I read a book and think or say, I want to see this in film. This will be bigger than Twilight or HP.

I loved this book! It's suspenseful, fun, and exciting to read. It kept me awake all night reading until I just couldn't read anymore. The characters are well developed and will quickly earn a place in your heart. You really care about what happens to them. And just when you think you might have the book figured out, it takes a new twist and takes you to a different place. At first I thought it was going to be a romance book but it was soon full of action and drama too. It has a little bit of everything for everyone. I recommend this book to everyone. It's great for teens but also for adults. Read it. You'll love it!
This book contains a whole other realm to wonder about. I got caught up emotionally in the plot, as I can relate to a sixteen year old girl who loves animals and can appreciate cultural differences. Also, I enjoyed the action packed adventure, but the wonder of what might be fiction and what might be real in the material presented makes this book stimulating on multiple levels.

I recently finished reading "Befriended", a story of a young woman, Gracie McKay, who gets lost in the forest wilderness during her first visit there and encounters the majestic Forest People. It turns into a considerable adventure as she both makes new friends and encounters enemies of every ilk and nearly every species. The ending is never clear as each new danger that pops up appears more deadly and insurmountable than the last. Along the way, Gracie becomes ever more capable in mastering the environment as her awesome companions gain increasing respect. But always, always and at all times, one must wonder if she (and they) can survive. "Befriended" is structured to deliver the maximum interest per chapter, and one may finish a chapter in little time and want to continue. Yes, this is an impeccable story, one that kept me going all the way to the end and beyond. It left me wondering whether certain passages late in the book might not hint at a sequel, something I would readily purchase.* Now, I am a man. And to the male reader, I would like to say, do not be fooled by the notion of a "ladies story". Do you think if your daughter/wife/sister or even mother were lost in the wild with all its predators, that their adventure would be sweet and soft without great danger?

I just finished the book (Betrayed) and it's by far my favorite! EXCELLENT!!! I absolutely love Xylea and the other underground world! Actually, there's absolutely nothing that I don't love about this one. Like I said, even more than the other two.

My soon to be 12 year old daughter is now officially hooked on your books. She accidentally started on the second one first and couldn't put it down after she started. She told me this evening that it should be a movie and of course I agree.

The first one was great! Just finished it. It got to where I couldn't put it down. I like action movies and such, so when the action got going I was hooked. The darn book kept me up all night reading! I haven't been a "young adult" in almost 50 years and I loved the book. I think teens will love it too, as well as adults.

I'm caught up and waiting for the third. Loved both. I agree, I can't get anything else done either once I open that cover. She's definitely in more complicated situations now. Can't wait. No pressure, lol. :)

I liked it better than Twilight! Cant wait to read the next one.

"Fantastic, this book was incredible! It made me feel like I was there with the characters. The story line left me wanting the second book. I couldn't put it down. I ended up staying awake all night just so I could finish it. One of the best reads I've had in a long time. I would recommend this to anyone."
"I loved the first two books. It's rare (for me) that books are so good they stick with me. These did just that."
"This is a lovely whimsical story of a young teenage girl's love for the human-like creatures who rescue and save her from certain death in the vast forests of the pacific northwest. It's a wonderful adventure that in some ways reminded me of the fabulous creatures and adventures found in the Chronicles of Narnia. This is a very special story, and I cannot wait for the following books to be published. Melanie has discovered a special niche unfulfilled in literature and this is a unique precious story of love and friendship."

"This teen fiction book has an amazing subject - the giant but elusive forest people. In this work of fiction the author leaves it up to the reader to distinguish between the probable and the improbable! You can't assume particulars of the account to be improbable! Have fun! The novel teaches young people some important lessons - respect for life in its varied forms, the possibility of kinship and relationship with another species, and much more. It is a totally good read, full of love, loyalty, enjoyment of nature, and high ideals, as well as the requisite excitement, danger, narrow escapes, etc.!"
-- Mara R.
"Gracie, a displaced New Yorker whose family moves to the Great Northwest, discovers new friends who live in the forests and gains a whole new perspective about life. The story a reality / fantasy book filled with adventure and romance. Great book for young adults and those who are still young at heart!"
-- Thirsty for Truth
"I was hooked from the very beginning. This is a great adventure story and I would add I think it mostly would appeal to girls but I would encourage anyone to read it as well. I'm going to give a copy to some girls around here & ask if the school library would like a copy."
-- Meera L.
"This book was so awesome, Melanie tells the story of a group of Forest People living in the Wild! It is a great book for kids and adults as well. Can't wait to read the 2nd book in the series. So excited to read it. I read the 1st book in a day! Captivating and keeps you reading and reading. Great Job Melanie. Looking forward to many more books from you in the future!!!
"Highly recommend this book! I absolutely love this book! Once I began reading it, I couldn't put it down. I can't wait for the sequel to see what's in store next for Gracie and Zari.
"I really loved this book it was exciting and well writen. Melanie Reed is a wonderful author and I'm so glad my daughter can read it too. Its innocent yet fun. I'm going to tell everyone to read it."
"Gracie's and Zari's Adventures Continue - Great sequel. The adventures of Gracie and Zari continue in this book. Gracie struggles with teenage angst as she tries to live in both Zari's world and her own at the same time. Learning to live in two worlds open ups new perspectives and makes both her and Zari better people."
-- Thirst for the Truth
"Love, love, loved this book. Next book please. Loved this one."
